Come and Celebrate the Birthday of The Kang!

October 20, 2010

Someone’s having a birthday…That’s right The Kang is turning 52 and looking good, honey! This true renaissance man is a poet, writer, actor, photographer and probably can leap over tall building in a single bound!

My favorite Viggo performance is in the rainy TNT Saturday Afternoon classic Hidalgo. It’s cheesy to be sure and not the sort of film I would actively seek out, regardless of the handsomeness of its lead actor. That said, I don’t know how I ever folded a single load of laundry without it!

Here’s what folks on my twitter feed had to say about The Kang:

JPeep: he’s a chameleon (think Eastern Promises) who never plays dumb, and he has that great screen actor ability to truly listen.

@bethhicks0518: Viggo didn’t trade on a single cliche in “A Walk on the Moon.” He & Diane Lane had amazing emotional and physical chemistry.

@CriticalMash: Anyone who looks dangerous AND cool while he knife-fights for his life in-the-nude in a Russian bath raises the bar for all.

@redlami: Peter Weir gave him his first role so he’s practically an Aussie. That makes him hot by definition.

@hsofia: Reading abt how Viggo left stream of consciousness voice msgs abt chicken & pants on Dom Monaghan’s machine endeared me to him more. And who else plays earnest and good in one film, then soulless and depraved with equal aplomb in another?!

@TariRocks: Viggo: not the Carpathian from Ghostbusters II. Less demonic forehead, more fetching stubble. Same amount of brooding.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Mortensen!!!
