Screen Legend Patricia Neal Dies

August 9, 2010

Austere screen actor Patricia Neal crossed over to do some decorating for Peppard in the great by and by and possibly to antagonize Hud. Neal, best know for her sharp, nuanced portrayals of brassy women, leaves a collection of memorable screen performances behind.

I apologize that I can’t embed some of these.

Neal in Hud

She was married to the strange children’s author (isn’t that redundant) Roald Dahl for THIRTY YEARS before peacing him out. Neal’s granddaughter is the well known British model, foodie and TV personality Sophie Dahl.

she was so great in The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Helen: What about the rest of the world?
Tom: I don’t care about the rest of the world!
    [Seeing her shocked expression]
Tom: You’ll feel different when you read about me in the papers.
    Helen: I feel different now.

    RIP Patsy.

I adored her voice, even as a little kid. “The Homecomming” was a family favorite; we were soo disappointed when Patricia Neal was not the mom on “The Waltons”.

Holy moly, I totally forgot all about Anacin. Do they even still sell that stuff?

For a long time I confused Patricia Neal with Colleen Dewhurst.
