Who is that Actor: Jenifer Lewis

August 5, 2010

Jenifer Lewis came on my radar with her measured performance as Tina Turner’s mom in 1993’s What’s Love Got to Do With It. But she is probably better known to fans for her extensive Broadway resume and her supporting role on the Lifetime show Strong Medicine – a show I appreciated for its desire to explore topical women’s health issues, but was repelled by its schmaltziness.

I would loved to see Jenifer Lewis added to the cast of Grey’s Anatomy! She could play a great foil for Chief Webber or Bailey!

yay Jenifer Lewis yay! I know her primarily from her work with Bette Midler in the 80s, and she’s been in a couple of Disney/Pixar movies over the last few years. Also, I think she was one of Will’s aunts on Fresh Prince. Love her!

Yes! I forgot about that. Also, I just noticed she was one of Whoopi’s back up singers in her nightclub act in the movie Sister Act. Ha.

Jenifer Lewis has a really rare gift of being totally convincing doing drama and comedy. I really believe that comedy is related directly to music because timing is so much a part of it, and Lewis being a great singer herself has a real ability there. Great choice to spotlight!
