R.I.P. Pete Quaife

Picture yourself/When you’re gettin’ old

Kinks Bassist Dead at 66

Darn it. Well, Pete, I hope you are tapping out some of those gloriously elastic, bouncy, rockin’ basslines in Rock ‘N’ Roll heaven. I know you didn’t get to follow the Kinks through their entire run, but you played damn good bass on some of the greatest, most iconic rock ‘n’ roll songs in history. I never get tired of “You Really Got Me”, “Who Will Be the Next In Line”, “All Day and All of the Night”, “Picture Book”, “Lazy Old Sun”, and on and on and on and on… and you were a big part of all that. Cheers, Pete.

When my aunt was in Jr/High school, the world was divided into Beatles Fans vs Elvis Fans (yes, think SE Hinton). Of course, as a bona fide lifelong wierdo, my Aunt was all about The Kinks, so I was defacto an early adopter. My first 2 45s (I was three) were “You Really Got Me” and “Hang On Sloopy”.

    Rest in peace.
