Quick Pats of Butter

April 15, 2010

Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett

  • It’s rumored Law & Order: Los Angeles is coming to NBC this fall.

EXCLUSIVE: Dick Wolf is once again looking to expand his Law & Order empire to 4 series on the air. Sources tell me that NBC has picked up Law & Order: Los Angeles (aka LOLA) with a 13-episode order for fall. Brotherhood creator Blake Masters is on board to write the new series set in Los Angeles with Wolf. The Wolf Films/UMS project has been in development for the past couple of months.

Haven’t been able to find much in the way of casting and NBC hasn’t confirmed the rumor. Official fall lineup announces take place on May 17th. Stay tuned…

  • Peter Steele, lead singer of Type O Negative died. While the story is still developing reports state the singer died of heart failure.
  • Cannes 2010 has announced its film lineup. The festival takes place May 12 – 23, which means there will be 11 days filled with potential celebrity gaffes, scandals and reversals of fortunes. Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood (Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett) and Oliver Stone’s Wall Street Sequel (Money Never Sleeps) are in the competition.
  • It’s official. Tesh says of Oprah, “Yeah, I hit that.” Okay so he didn’t exactly say that, but did acknowledge the relationship they had in the 1970s when they both worked in TN. While that’s cool and all, what’s more interesting – who knew Tesh ever worked in TN? Tesh side stepped responding to published reports he didn’t like how her chocolate looked against his vanilla and instead giving the pat, “We remain good friends.” Oprah ain’t talking either, so who knows. For more unsubstantiated rumors about Tesh and Oprah, Kitty Kelley’s unauthorized bio is in stores now. Don’t lie, you wanna read it too!

I am shaking my head over yet another version of Robin Hood. Really? REALLY?! Why!??!! And I love me some Cate Blanchett, but not always the movies she’s in.

hsofia: I’m with you there. I don’t understand it either. I am really tired of this story.

The most bewildering thing is I saw an ad for it the other day (on Hulu?) and it had the AUDACITY to say, “The untold story …” Give me a buh-rake!

I really liked the last 4th L&O series that lasted what, like 5 episodes? It couldn’t survive the loss of Jerry Orbach, and audiences didn’t get the reframing of the formula. But I got it, and I loved it, damn it.

Meanwhile, my take on Yet Another Robin Hood is that it fills a cultural need for a society that doesn’t even begin to take care of needy people. It’s like CEOs pretending to be regular people with hearts on that show Undercover Boss.

Law And Order outside of NYC seems like a huge mistake/disaster.

And the Robin Hood thing- what “untold story”!?

After the hot buttered fail that’s been the last two episodes of L&O Criminal Intent, we might be down to two anyway. Is Dick Wolf even involved with that one? If so, can he please have Goldblum wear his cute glasses.

Law & Order: Los Angeles is destined to fail. Any show based in Los Angeles goes off the air real quick. People don’t want to see L.A. doing anything but erupting into a volcano, falling into the sea, or in some other way getting knocked the fuck out. L.A. Law aside.

Tasha – people don’t mind watching people HOOK UP in Los Angeles. Which maybe is what saved LA Law.

And despite liking Vincent D’Onofrio, I cannot watch L&O: CI. Ugh. I remember the first Episode of the first L&O! That show was a staple in our household; we watched it as a family! Along with Jeopardy!, MacGuyver, and the A-Team.
