Cynthia Rhodes

Cynthia Rhodes-Marx with co-star Travolta

Dancer, singer and actress Cynthia Rhodes was hot for a minute back in the early to mid 80s. She had of string of memorable roles in films like Flashdance, Dirty Dancing and Staying Alive. Later she went on to front Animotion and managed to beat all the edginess out of the band in the process. Nowadays it seems she’s mostly known for being Richard Marx’s wife.

Her most famous role was that of dancer Tina Tech. She spends much of Flashdance waiting for her nebbish accountant boyfriend to call. Still the dance routine is pretty fly.

Cynthia Rhodes as “Jackie” in Staying Alive breaking up with Tony via song, with Frank Stallone playing guitar in her band.

Singing Animotion’s later hit “Room to Move”

As the ill-fated Penny in Dirty Dancing

And more cheesy dancing with Travolta set to a duet featuring Cyn and Frank Stallone.

Poor, poor Penny with her uber-tragic abortion. Don’t have the sex, kiddos!

Dirty Dancing was riddled with painful life lessons set to mediocre hits from the 60s.

I love the end where Jerry Orbach lays the monetary smack down on Robbie for irresponsibly impregnating Penny and not paying for her abortion.

I always found that “Hungry Eyes” sandwich very appetizing.
